TUCSON (KVOA) – A former advisor to ex-President Donald Trump maybe calling Oro Valley home after he recently purchased a home in the area, according to documents filed with the Pima County Recorder.
According to county documents, Steve Bannon, who served as the White House’s chief strategist during Trump’s first seven months, purchased a 4,865-square-foot home on Jan. 31 for $1.55 million.
The documents state put down payment of $310,000 on the four bedroom, six bath home with an attached guest quarters.
Bannon has previous ties with Southern Arizona as he served as the acting director of the closed-system research project, Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Ariz. in 1994 at the start of the research facility’s second mission – a 10-month endeavor.
While he left the program two years later, his time as the acting CEO was surrounded by controversy after a former crew member filed an “abuse of process” civil lawsuit against the Biosphere 2’s ownership and management company, Space Biospheres Ventures.
After this venture, Bannon made a name for himself as an advocate for right-wing nationalists establishing Breitbart News and becoming the chief executive officer of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign before serving as the former president’s chief strategist and senior counselor to the president.
Bannon has recently captured the national spotlight after he was held in contempt of Congress in October 2021 for refusing to comply with a subpoena in connection to the 2021 Capitol attack. He was indicted on two criminal contempt charges in November 2021.
